NECROTIZING SIALOMETAPLASIA:
Looks like a malignant pathology but these deep ulcers with indurated borders are benign and self-limiting and only supportive treatment is required.
It is characterized by ischemic necrosis of minor salivary gland lobules and squamous metaplasia of associated glandular ducts but with preservation of lobular architecture.
Differential diagnoses include any chronic non-healing ulcer! Trauma and local anesthesia (greater palatine blocks) may be predisposing factors.
Healing is slow but sure, with some lesions taking months to disappear completely.
